“FPS Performance Guide”

Below you will find a list of things you can do to improve your PC FPS (frames per second) while gaming and some specific tips for World of Warcraft.

PC Settings

  • Check your temperatures for your CPU/GPU, chipset and drives and if they’re thermal throttling. Use HWiNFO for this. (sensors)
Reapply thermal paste for your CPU (need someone who know what he’s doing if you’re not familiar with this).
  • Make sure RAM is running on Dual Channel mode. Use HWiNFO to check. If it’s not running on dual channel then consult your motherboard manual for instructions on which sockets the sticks should be installed in.
  • Check on your BIOS that your RAM is running on XMP/DOCP/EXPO mode.
  • Update your Windows via Windows Update.
  • If any of the latest Windows Updates is giving you issues, you can go search the version you are using and your CPU/GPU to figure out which one it is and revert it or see if there is a solution for your configuration.
  • Update Hardware Drivers to the latest versions. It’s often to see stuttering and low performance with outdated drivers. Update Chipset, Graphic Card Drivers.
  • If you are using an NVidia graphic card go to NVidia Control Panel, under “Manage 3D settings” and set “Texture filtering – Quality:High performance”. There are similar options on the AMD software.
  • Check that your game is installed on an SSD. If not try to move it to SSE.
  • Check that your storage drives have at least 10% empty space. If not, then uninstall some unused software/data.
  • If you are using an SSD/NVMe drive, make sure you have 10% set as Overprovisioning. (search to figure out what this does and how to set it up). You can set Overprovisioning through the Windows Disk Management.
  • Use the “Disk Cleanup” provided by Windows to clear your main drive system files often. You can safely check all options there as long as you are happy with the latest windows update.
  • Do not have a gazillion amount of tabs open on your browser when gaming.
  • Do not watch movies on your second monitor while gaming.
    • Check for software updates: UCHECK https://www.adlice.com/ucheck/
Check for driver updates: CCleaner Pro https://www.ccleaner.com/ or Driver Booster Free as free alternative https://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php
