Ulgrax Mythic Down!
Ulgrax Mythic Down!
Ulgrax the Devourer Mythic Kill Guide
Welcome to our first Mythic kill in The War Within! Ulgrax the Devourer is down and let me tell you—what a crybaby! Every time he didn’t get his treats, it was like watching a tantrum unfold. Maybe we should have brought some Snickers.

If you’re preparing to dip your toes into this fight, check out the tips and tricks we picked up during our progression below.
General Tips
- Group Splitting: Divide your raid into two groups of 10, with an equal number of healers and tanks. Alternate these groups to soak Carnivorous Contest.
- Boss Health: Ulgrax has a huge health pool, so be prepared for a long fight. Most guilds’ first kill lasts around 9 minutes.
- Healing: Healing is intense. The main phases have steady healing requirements, but the intermissions demand burst healing. Bring 5 healers for your first kill.
- Web Clearing: Don’t get fixated on clearing all of the Stalker’s Webbing with Digestive Acid. Focus on clearing the corridor between the soaking group and the boss. The rest can be cleared during downtime, like at the start of the intermission when adds spawn, or when you’re moving to feed the boss.
Classes that can clear webs:
- Hunters → Aspect of the Turtle
- Paladins → Divine Shield
- Death Knights → Anti-Magic Shell
- Evokers → Breath of Eons/Deep Breath
- Warriors → Bladestorm
Evoker Breaths and Warrior Bladestorms are ideal for clearing Stalker’s Webbing between the group and Ulgrax after he lands at the end of the intermission. The other abilities are great for spot-clearing webs during the fight.
Main Phase
Positioning:
- Start diagonally with ranged at maximum distance from the boss (see picture below). This positioning helps because:
- Stalker’s Webbing tends to spawn within a 20-yard radius of the boss, so being further away reduces movement.
- You’re already in place for the first Carnivorous Contest.
This positioning minimizes movement and maximizes DPS uptime during Bloodlust.

For consecutive main phases, tank the boss wherever he spawns and use the middle of the platform as your stacking point for Carnivorous Contest (see picture).

Pressure Points:
- Ulgrax casts Venomous Lash three times in each main phase. This ability hits hard, and the DoT it leaves behind is just as nasty. Assign healing cooldowns, and make sure the raid is prepared to use personals, health potions, and healthstones to mitigate this damage.
Intermission Phase
Positioning:
- At the end of the intermission, Ulgrax always spawns opposite where the adds spawn.
- At the start of the intermission, position your group near where Ulgrax will spawn, staying slightly off-center. This way, the adds will naturally funnel toward your group.
- Abilities like Abomination Limb from Death Knights are great for keeping adds neatly stacked.
- Once most of the adds are gathered, pop cooldowns and nuke them down. Keeping 2-minute cooldowns for each intermission is ideal for making sure the adds die quickly.

Pressure Points:
- Juggernaut Charge: This deals significant raid-wide damage and leaves a hard-hitting DoT. It happens four times per intermission, so use healing cooldowns that can be cast while dodging the charge.
- Disembowel (from adds): This can quickly kill players if not managed. Make sure tanks pick up the adds and establish aggro before DPS burns them down.
With these tips and strategies in mind, you’ll have Ulgrax throwing his final tantrum in no time. Best of luck on your Mythic progression, and we hope this guide helps you secure the kill!
